The 1 03 13 grinder grinds thin mineral sections down to a specified thickness.
This machine can reduce samples attached to glass slides to a thickness of 30 - 40 µm in just a few minutes.

General

This machine was developed by geologists in the elf laboratories for their own requirements. It produces high quality thin sections of rock or any other material that needs to be reduced in thickness until it is transparent.
It eliminates tedious manual finishing using glass plates or lathes. It is designed to be easy to use and minimize operator effort.
The associated control enclosure includes a recycling unit for the coolant.

Operation

The slide is simply held in place by capillary action (or optionally vacuum) in the sample holder.
The sample holder has a lever which is turned 90° to the left to bring the sample into contact with the grinding wheel. The grinding depth is controlled manually with a scale graduated in 5 µ steps.
The grinding wheel is mounted on self-adjusting, vibration free bearings and the coolant washes away the waste quickly and keeps the wheel cool. The coolant flow is essential for producing a good finish.
